Heritage Seaweed is launching North America’s first-ever seaweed harvest festival! It will run April 26–May 4, 2019, in Portland and elsewhere in Maine. By featuring seaweed front and center on menus at the city’s top restaurants, bars, breweries and distilleries, Seaweed Week will raise awareness and demand for this delicious, nutrient-dense, remarkably sustainable food that supports Maine’s working waterfront jobs.
Recently chosen as Bon Apetit’s Food City of the Year, Portland is a national foodie destination. Seaweed Week is a way to highlight the businesses already championing seaweed, as well as to get others innovating with seagreens.
Other Seaweed Week events will include tours of a kelp farm in Casco Bay, cooking demos, a Fork Food Lab maker competition, and a kick-off party at Maine Craft Distilling showcasing the distilling process behind their seaweed-based 50 Stone Whiskey.
