ABOUT THE MAKER
Maine Sea Salt Co. was founded in 1998 by Steve and Sharon Cook. Sharon is from Van Buren, Maine, and Steve is from Bailey Island. We love food and cooking and you can't even begin without sea salt.
Maine Sea Salt is located in Down East Maine in the town of Marshfield, next door to Machias. The seawater Comes From Bucks Harbor (the setting of Robert McCloskey's iconic children's book "One Morning in Maine."
We do not add drying agents to the salt, it's kept in its simplest natural state. We have seasoned salt, made only with the best ingredients. Our smoked salt is smoked with a real wood fire in small batches. We guarantee Maine Sea Salt 100%.
The Green Houses are solar panels, in effect, evaporating the seawater using the sun for the heat source. Salt production is seasonal, during the summer months, when the sun directly warms the pools. The sun and its position in the sky determine our season and like farmers the weather is very important.
